Rouvroy Battles for 3 Hours and 40 Minutes, Bouquier Falls to Coria at Roland Garros
The qualifying rounds began this Monday at Roland Garros with many French players in action.
On Court 13, Margaux Rouvroy, ranked 248th in the world, delivered an epic battle against Haruka Kaji, ranked 219th. The Frenchwoman, trailing 4-2 in the third set, managed to triumph 6-7, 7-5, 7-6 after 3 hours and 40 minutes of play. She will face Nina Stojanovic in the second round of qualifying.
In other women’s matches, Manon Léonard lost to Lucrezia Stefanini (7-6, 6-4), and Jenny Lim fell to Ena Shibahara (6-4, 6-1).
On the men’s side, Arthur Bouquier faced Federico Coria on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. The Frenchman put up a strong fight against the Argentine, but the latter’s experience on clay proved decisive after three sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-3) and 2 hours and 20 minutes of battle.
Among other results, Constant Lestienne lost to Roman Burruchaga (6-3, 7-6), as did Maé Malige, who was making his first appearance in Roland Garros qualifying and was understandably defeated by Federico Gomez (6-3, 6-3).
Meanwhile, Kyrian Jacquet advanced to the second round after a convincing win over Taro Daniel (6-1, 6-4).
