Ruud Continues His Impressive Run in Basel and Eliminates Wawrinka
Casper Ruud dominated the former Swiss champion with authority. His solid play and composure earned him another victory, extending a brilliant streak since Stockholm.
In his 18th appearance in Basel, Stan Wawrinka's journey ends in the second round. At 40 years old, the Swiss player had enjoyed a brief rejuvenation by defeating Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round (6-1, 7-6), securing his third ATP tour win of the year.
This Thursday in the second round, Wawrinka faced Casper Ruud. The Norwegian, on a streak of six consecutive wins since Stockholm, had to stay alert against a resilient opponent. With a score of 6-4, 7-6, he secured his seventh straight victory, keeping his hopes alive for the Turin Masters.
He will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina tomorrow in an attempt to reach the semifinals. Wawrinka, on his part, will conclude his 2025 season at the Athens tournament (November 2-8), where he has received a wild-card entry.
