Ruud-Opelka, Fonseca-Cobolli, Alcaraz in doubles: Friday’s explosive lineup at the Laver Cup

The first day of the Laver Cup promises to be heated in San Francisco: singles clashes, the debut of Fonseca, and an Alcaraz ready to shine from his first match... The program details below.
The eighth edition of the Laver Cup will kick off tomorrow in San Francisco. Team Europe, led by world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, will be the favorite this weekend against a somewhat reshuffled Team World.
For the first day of competition, the day session (starting at 10 p.m. in France) will feature, as usual, two singles matches. Casper Ruud will represent Europe against the big server Reilly Opelka, followed by the debuts of Jakub Mensik and Alex Michelsen, both newcomers to this competition.
The night session (4 a.m. in France) will likely be highly followed with the first appearance of Joao Fonseca, a gem of Team World, who will face Flavio Cobolli. The last match of the day, a doubles encounter, will see Alcaraz and Mensik teamed up against the Fritz/Michelsen pair.
For this first day of competition, each victory earns one point. At the end of the weekend, the first team to reach 13 points will be declared the winner.
