Ruud serious about his debut
Casper Ruud got his New York tournament off to an excellent start.
The Norwegian, a finalist in the event 2 years ago but lacking results in recent weeks, didn't give Chinese Bu a chance.
Faced with an outsider opponent, only 123rd in the world, but very confident (15 wins in 17 matches), Ruud successfully controlled the proceedings.
After a hard-fought opening game, he got the better of his opponent to win in just over 2 hours (7-6, 6-2, 6-2).
For a place in the third round, he could meet up with a certain Gaël Monfils, who is due to face Diego Schwartzman later tonight.
