Ruud trapped by Martinez in Estoril!
Casper Ruud suffered a surprise semi-final defeat on the clay courts of Estoril. Defending champion and number 1 seed in the draw, he was beaten by Pedro Martinez in just over three hours and three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-4). The Norwegian thus missed out on a great opportunity to build up his confidence before turning to the ochre of Monte-Carlo.
Martinez, who has already beaten Richard Gasquet in the quarters, confirms his current excellent form. The Spaniard will be looking to create another sensation against Hurkacz in Sunday's final, to claim his 2nd ATP title.
