Rybakina Faces Surprise Opponent Mboko, Osaka Takes on Tauson: Wednesday, August 6 Schedule in Montreal
This Wednesday, the semifinals of the WTA 1000 in Montreal will take place. The lineup features two surprising matchups.
The first will pit Elena Rybakina, the tournament’s No. 9 seed, against Victoria Mboko, a wildcard entry and currently ranked 85th in the world, starting at midnight French time.
Thanks to her run, the young Canadian is guaranteed to break into the Top 50 at the very least. As for the Kazakh player, she has a chance to return to the Top 10 with a victory.
The second semifinal, following shortly after, will see Naomi Osaka face Clara Tauson. The Dane has already knocked out two Top 10 players: Iga Świątek and Madison Keys.
While the Japanese star hasn’t had the same level of high-profile wins, she has delivered very solid performances since the start of the tournament and has been barely troubled, except against Liudmila Samsonova.
