Rybakina holds her own at Roland-Garros
The WTA circuit is stabilizing. Since Madrid, we've been explaining it over and over again. Women's tennis is becoming increasingly closed. While Swiatek and Gauff reached the third round on Wednesday and Sabalenka qualified earlier in the day, it was now Elena Rybakina (4th) who got the job done.
Without necessarily playing flamboyant tennis, the Kazakh mastered her game (6-3, 6-4 in 1h06). Opposed to Arantxa Rus (50th), she managed the match very well, relying on an efficient serve (8 aces, 79% of points won on first serve) and early ball control (20 winners, 28 unforced errors). Without playing her best tennis, she reached the third round, where she will face the winner of the duel between Mertens and Martic.
