Too shaky, Parry loses to Svitolina
It was a close call for Diane Parry. On a Philippe Chatrier court that was once again sparsely filled, the Frenchwoman didn't look too shabby, but eventually lost out to a solid Elina Svitolina (6-4, 7-6 in 1 hour 52 minutes).
Well into her game, the Ukrainian initially dominated proceedings, exerting constant pressure on her opponent. Pressing hard on every return game, with 14 break points throughout the match, the 19th-ranked player in the world seemed to be heading straight for a quiet victory (6-4, 4-1). Finally, the young Frenchwoman woke up. Increasing her aggressiveness, she recovered her two break points, even forcing Svitolina to serve to stay in the set. This late awakening proved insufficient, however, as the quarter-finalist at the last French Open handled the tie-break of the second set perfectly to go through.
In the next round, she will face the winner of the match between Pavlyuchenkova and Bogdan.
