Rybakina Overcomes McNally Despite Elbow Scare in Beijing

After receiving a first-round bye, Elena Rybakina made her Beijing debut in the second round against Caty McNally.

While the American was serving for the first set and held three set points, Rybakina managed to fight back and win 7-5.

The second set proved more challenging for the Kazakh player, who was broken at 4-4. She then took a medical timeout during the changeover due to pain in her elbow and right arm.

After losing the second set, she broke her opponent early in the third set and, despite facing two break-back points, ultimately secured victory 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

With this win, Rybakina becomes the third player with the most victories in 2025, totaling 43, behind Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. She will face Eva Lys in the third round.
