Sabalenka: "I probably feel better on clay than on hard".

Le 09/08/2024 à 10h37 par Elio Valotto
Sabalenka: I probably feel better on clay than on hard.

Aryna Sabalenka is back in business.

Injured and withdrawn from Wimbledon, then missing out on the Olympic Games, the Belarusian is gradually rediscovering her best tennis. Semi-finalist in Washington last week, she hopes to do even better in Toronto.

An easy 6-2, 6-2 winner over Yuan on her debut, the world No.2 will be looking to continue her fine form against Boulter in the Round of 16.

Questioned in the press conference, Sabalenka talked about her feelings on hard court.

And, to everyone's surprise, she explained that her favourite surface is clay: "I love playing on clay. I don't know why people think it's not my best surface.

I probably feel better on clay than on hard, to be honest. But yes, in terms of results, I'm better on hard.

Clay is a different kind of tennis. The exchanges are longer, and you have to build up a point.

Physically, after playing on clay, you're probably better, because after playing such long rallies, you feel much better.

I guess that's what I take from it, is that my physical abilities are probably better."
