Sabalenka Talks About Clay: "I've Learned Not to Rush"
Aryna Sabalenka made her debut this Saturday in Stuttgart, a late start due to Anastasia Potapova's withdrawal in the second round and Good Friday in Germany on Friday.
During the post-match press conference after her victory over Elise Mertens, the Belarusian spoke about her game on clay, a surface that isn’t necessarily her favorite.
"I had a week off to train on clay before starting the competition here in Stuttgart. Honestly, I’m feeling more and more comfortable. I’m diversifying my game and getting used to putting more spin on my shots than I usually do on hard courts.
I think I’ll keep improving on clay because I’m getting better at maintaining maximum focus over long periods, and physically, I’m a very powerful player.
I feel ready for big battles on this surface, and I’ve learned that I shouldn’t rush to win points—that I need to adapt my tennis."
She will face Jasmine Paolini this Sunday for a spot in the final.
