Sabalenka talks about how she watches tennis: "I watch tennis for the mental aspect of the game"
Aryna Sabalenka will face Jessica Pegula in the WTA 1000 Miami final tomorrow.
On the eve of her fourth final of the season after Brisbane, Melbourne, and Indian Wells, the world No. 1 discussed in a press conference one of her new hobbies:
"I never really watched tennis when I was young. I think if I had been a little smarter at that age, it might have helped me become a better player earlier. But I still have time (smile).
When I watch men's tennis, I try to see what they do differently. Obviously, there are many things that are different, but I try to detect something that I could use in training and on the court.
When I watch women's tennis, I just try to see what they do, where they are struggling, and analyze the situation a bit. But I would say that when I watch tennis, I watch it more for the mental aspect of the game.
Some moments make me curious, and I wonder: 'How is the player going to handle the pressure?'. Especially the men, like 'What are they going to manage to do with so much pressure?'."
