At the beginning of the week, Carlos Alcaraz surprised the tennis world by announcing the end of his collaboration with his iconic coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. The current world number 1 had been working with the 2003 Roland-Garros winner since the start of his career, and began their association in 2018.

While observers are questioning the reasons for this sudden split between the two parties, rumors suggest that financial reasons for Ferrero in the 2026 season led to disagreements and would thus be at the origin of such a decision.

"Every separation from a coach feels like a breakup"

In any case, despite the news, Daria Saville believes the duo will be reunited in the future. The Australian, ranked 198th in the world, reacted to the end of the Spanish tandem but thinks it is not a final goodbye between the two men, who had built a relationship of trust over several years.

"I was really sad, it's an iconic duo, and every separation from a coach feels like a breakup. That's the other problem, we don't know how Carlitos will play at the Australian Open this year, because there is a bit of grief. I also have a feeling they will get back together. Juan Carlos (Ferrero) said: 'Maybe one day our paths will cross again.'

I feel like he will always be in his corner. I don't think he will hire someone else anytime soon, because he has a well-established team. Usually, a collaboration ends due to poor results or because a coach cannot commit to traveling with a player throughout the year.

I don't think that's the case here, because he said: 'I wish I could have continued.' And then there's the contract, the money, the agreement. But I have never separated from a coach for that reason," Saville assured for The Tennis Podcast.

Yeah, Daria. You never did, because you have values and morals.

Alcazar doesn't.

Since February 2022 and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Ukrainian sport has been heavily affected by human, structural and economic losses. Tennis has, of course, not been spared. While Ukrainian athletes have had to rethink their entire organization, an entire country, behind the scenes, has had to adapt and change its training conditions. This extends all the way to the highest level, where professional players have spoken out, trying as best they can to help their nation.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
