Schett on Fernandez's Father: "The Way He Treats His Daughter Is Insane"
The treatment of female players has been at the center of controversy for several weeks due to the Stefano Vukov case, coach of Elena Rybakina, who was suspended for a year by the WTA.
Barbara Schett, former world No. 7, spoke on the subject and also mentioned Leylah Fernandez: "The problem is that many players don't dare to say anything because they're afraid of personal consequences.
For instance, I was terribly afraid of Jelena Dokic's father. I probably never would have said anything because I thought he was going to kill me.
Maybe you don't find it as tragic as you might think later. But I believe that a number of players have already spoken to the WTA about Rybakina and Vukov.
It is important that anonymity is preserved because they are simply afraid to speak up.
I'm also curious to see what will happen to Leylah Fernandez's father because the way he treats his daughter is insane.
It's terrible that something like this still exists today and is sometimes accepted."
