Sensation in Bastad, Ruud beaten from the start!

Sensation in Bastad, Ruud beaten from the start!

Thiago Monteiro has certainly been a head-scratcher this season.

Very much at ease on clay, the Brazilian just knocked out Casper Ruud in the second round of the Bastad tournament (6-3, 6-3).

Having already beaten Tsitsipas in Madrid (6-4, 6-4), the 30-year-old has been reborn this season. Although relatively irregular, he showed once again that, on a good day, he can beat just about anyone.

Efficient on serve, very enterprising in the exchange and a killer from the baseline (19 winners, 3 unforced errors), it's as a strong man that he reaches the quarter-finals, where the winner of the match between Kotov and Ajdukovic awaits.
