Series finale - No final for Paolini this time
Jasmine Paolini will not be playing in a third consecutive Grand Slam final. The Italian had reached the final of the two previous major tournaments, but she won't be doing the same at the US Open.
Paolini was beaten by Iga Swiatek in the title match at Roland Garros, then by Barbora Krejcikova in an unexpected final at Wimbledon. But she was eliminated in the last 16 in New York on Monday by Karolina Muchova (6-3, 6-3).
This elimination in no way detracts from the exceptional Grand Slam performance achieved by the world number 5 this season. Having never progressed beyond the 2nd round before 2024, she will end the year with two Round of 16 appearances (Australian Open, US Open) and two finals to her credit (Roland Garros, Wimbledon).
