Shanghai 2025: Sinner Overwhelms Altmaier and Advances to the Third Round

In Shanghai, defending champion Jannik Sinner easily won his match against Daniel Altmaier in the second round of the Masters 1000, displaying his usual solidity. He triumphed in two sets (6-3, 6-3) to move on to the third round.
Entering the tournament late (with a bye in the first round), Sinner faced Altmaier on the center court of the Chinese tournament, a rival who has previously pushed him to the limit: the young Italian had won at the US Open 2022 in five sets but had lost to the German at Roland-Garros 2023.
Therefore, Altmaier, the world's 49th-ranked player, was eager to repeat his success. He had already eliminated Australian Tristan Schoolkate in his opening match with authority (6-3, 6-4). Nevertheless, their duel quickly turned in favor of the world number two: 6-3, 6-3 in 1 hour and 37 minutes.
With this result, Sinner secures his 59th victory in 75 hard-court matches in Masters 1000 events and qualifies for the third round, where he will face Dutchman Griekspoor (31st).
