Shelton Reaches His First Wimbledon Quarterfinal

In his third appearance at Wimbledon, Shelton faced Italy's Sonego in the round of 16. Recently breaking into the top 10, the American held his ground by defeating his opponent 3-6, 6-1, 7-6, 7-5.
Slow to start, the 22-year-old struggled in the first set but gradually found his rhythm. In the second set, he took control of the match and held firm in the following two tightly contested sets. With an extremely powerful serve and forehand, the American developed a game that proved difficult for his opponent to counter on this surface.
After reaching the round of 16 in London last year, the player has now surpassed his previous best result at the tournament and secured his fourth Grand Slam quarterfinal.
In the next round, he will face the winner of the match between Sinner and Dimitrov.
