Shelton Wins His First Masters 1000 in Toronto by Defeating Khachanov

The Toronto Masters 1000 final pitted Karen Khachanov against Ben Shelton. The first set was tightly contested between the two players. The Russian served to win the set, but the American managed to break his opponent.

Shelton then earned three set points but failed to convert them. The set ultimately went to a tie-break, which Khachanov won 7-5 after 1 hour and 4 minutes of play.

The American claims the first Masters 1000 title of his young career and will rise to world No. 6 in the next ATP rankings, surpassing Novak Djokovic.
