Sinner : "Alcaraz makes things very difficult"

Sinner : Alcaraz makes things very difficult

After winning 16 matches in a row since the start of this 2024 season, Jannik Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells' semi-finals on Saturday. But the Italian was positive right after the match, explaining he is not even considering this loss as a bad result, especially since he has a lot of respect for the Spaniard, as a player and as a person. The World No.3 also gave his vision about the chess game aspect of tennis.

Jannik Sinner : "It's, for sure, not the ending that I wanted, but playing against him (Alcaraz) is always tough. I tried to play obviously good tennis, which I've done, especially the first set. Then, I maid couple of mistakes, the momentum has changed, he raised his level and... that's it.

I'm really happy for him because he is really great player and a good guy.

Honnestly I don't think so much about that (his 19 matches winning streak). I've been positive trough out this winning streak. Positive even now, because, you know, I lost in the semis of Indian Wells, which is still a great result.

And now the next tournament is Miami, so I'm focused on being ready for Miami. For sure it's hard that it has to end like this here (in Indian Wells) because, for me, it is a really special place where to play in. But I feel thankful for what I'm doing."

Sinner can consistently play at a high level when he's in a rhythm. His defense is phenomenal when he's in a rhythm. He can sit back on the baseline and counter punch with the best. But other players have figured out his consistency drops when he's not in rhythm. Thus the technique of not giving him the same look over and over and over again. (That's not chess ... checkers maybe.) I have little doubt Cahill will help him figure it out and he'll become more consistent against a mixed bag of shots coming across the net.

Hello I'm new

4j

I am surprised about relatively low attendance at Roland Garros which was the most popular slam 20+ years ago. I myself love it as well as really loving aus and us opens. I don't care about Wimbledon, sometimes maybe I can watch women's tennis. I hate Wimbledon's white dress code, I feel like I am watching junior tennis...I watched very few matches like Graf davenport final in 1999 the last time.....

It will really be befitting if he attains his 25th Grand Slam crown at the AO for he's truly the GOAT & this will stamp him & endorse his GOAT status without an iota of doubt

Almost as important to Djokovic as Slam #25--and requiring less luck--is beating Federer's total of 103 singles titles. He'll play 250s, and might even surpass Connors's 109.
