Sinner : "Rivalry with Alcaraz makes things really fun"
Jannik Sinner lost against Carlos Alcaraz on Saturday in the semi-finals at Indian Wells (1-6, 6-3, 6-2). In press Conference, the World no.3 talked about how it works to get or not the upper hand in a rivalry like he has with Alcaraz. The Italian insisted on the fun aspect of this process.
Jannik Sinner : "It depends on how much time past from one match until the next one. Like, last year we played each other here, and then in Miami (2 weeks later). So there are not many practices, real practice sessions, to trying to improve things. Then, after, we didn't play each other anymore for a little bit and then we played again each other in Beijing (6 month later). I think that's again a bigger test to see where everything is.
Today also was a bigger test because we haven't faced each other for a little bit. But this makes things really fun. Maybe there is one time where one of us wins 3 or 4 times in a row. Then the other one has to try to adjust a little bit. Trying completely new things, maybe cause you were completely wrong (the previous time) and you lost 6-1, 6-1. But that's good to see for me, and trying to grow in the future. (...) Next time I will be prepared, or at least I will try to be prepared, and we'll see how it goes."
