Sinner and Zverev make a successful Halle debut!

Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev made a successful transition to grass. Having both enjoyed a very good tournament at Roland Garros, they made it through to the first round of the Halle tournament with some difficulty. Faced with tough opponents, they needed a little time to adapt to the surface, but in the end secured the essential: a place in the last 16.

Jannik Sinner's first outing as world number 1 was a success. Faced with a gripping Griekspoor (27th), the Italian had to work hard. Pushed to the limit and quickly trailing by a set 0, he found the resources to regain the upper hand and win in almost 2h30 (6-7, 6-3, 6-2).

For a first match on grass, the test was largely positive for Sinner. For a place in the quarter-finals, he will face Fabian Marozsan, ranked 45th in the world and who defeated Safiullin in the previous round (7-5, 4-6, 6-1).

Alexander Zverev also had a tough time of it. Faced with his compatriot Oscar Otte (from the qualifiers), the finalist of the last French Open also needed more than 2 hours of play to get out of the trap set for him by his opponent.

After conceding the first game in a tie-break, he gradually raised his game, particularly on serve (28 aces), to claim victory (6-7, 6-3, 6-4). In the next round, he will face Lorenzo Sonego, winner of Kecmanovic (7-6, 7-6).

Alexander Bublik also qualified, defeating Purcell (7-6, 6-4). The Kazakh thus joins Eubanks (44th) in the last 16.
