A furious Medvedev is fined on top of his defeat in Halle

Daniil Medvedev was eliminated in the 2nd round on Wednesday afternoon on the Halle grass court. The world n°5 was beaten in two hours and three sets (6-3, 2-6, 7-6) by China's Zhizhen Zhang. The latter will face Christopher Eubanks, winner of Alexander Bublik, for a place in the semi-finals.

Medvedev was furious with himself after the match. Probably because of the turn of events. He had a break lead in the 3rd set and then led 4-1 then 5-3 in the tie-break before conceding the last 4 points of the match.

In a rage, the Russian then violently hit his racket on the grass 3 times. An absolutely forbidden gesture, as it damages the living surface of the court, and will undoubtedly earn him a fine.
