Sinner, far too strong for de Minaur, reaches the Australian Open semi-finals
The match between Jannik Sinner and Alex de Minaur was eagerly awaited by the Australians.
For his first quarter-final in Melbourne, de Minaur was no match for the Italian.
Quickly broken in each set, the Australian was outplayed and had no time to get his hopes up.
Sinner won 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 in 1h50 of play. He will now meet Ben Shelton, who defeated Lorenzo Sonego earlier in the day, in the semi-finals.
In a post-match interview, the Italian had a few words to say about his opponent: "He and I know each other well now.
We played each other several times last year. We try to understand each other's game.
These matches can go quickly, there can be reversals of fortune. But I'm happy with my performance today.
Asked about the match between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, he replied: "I watched the match. I knew I could sleep a long time and wake up late.
It was an incredible match, and it's hard to see them go head-to-head in the quarter-finals.
I think this rivalry between the two is the best rivalry we have in tennis right now."
