Sinner on his next match: "De Minaur has nothing to lose, while I do"
Under the warmth of a supportive crowd, Jannik Sinner spoke after his victory against Ben Shelton (6-3, 7-6).
"When you come here and win all 3 of your group stage matches, it means you must be playing great tennis. Which I did. I felt that serving very well in the important moments led me to this result. Once again, it was a truly special day, and especially to play in front of my home crowd.
Against Ben (Shelton), it's always a very difficult challenge. You have to take small risks. When he hits a huge serve, there's not much you can do. So you have to accept it, while trying to never give up, which is what I did. The mental aspect has been excellent so far. Let's see how I will be tomorrow."
He continued by discussing his upcoming semi-final match against Alex de Minaur:
"First of all, I'm very happy for him. When you suffer those kinds of losses like he did against Lorenzo, it's very difficult. Congratulations to him for being able to produce such an incredible performance: one of the best matches I've seen him play (against Fritz).
I have to be very careful. He doesn't have much to lose, but I do. It's going to be very difficult. From my point of view, I'm very happy to be in the semi-finals. It's a special opportunity. I hope I can show some good tennis because we all hope for great semi-finals."
