Sinner qualifies for the second round of the Australian Open by beating Jarry
Jannik Sinner made his debut at the Australian Open. A victorious debut, beating Nicolas Jarry 7-6, 7-6, 6-1.
Despite a tough first two sets, the Italian came out on top in the final set and came through without losing a set.
The last time Sinner lost a set was to Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the third round in Shanghai, making a total of 29 consecutive sets won.
He said in a post-match interview: "I don't think success should ever change us as people.
Last year, I had some extraordinary successes. But it never changed who I am. There are so many great players who continue to motivate me.
I have to say I have the best team in the world. I'm happy to have them. We're trying to improve."
He will face the winner of Tristan Schoolkate's clash with Taro Daniel in the second round.
