Slight advantage for Auger-Aliassime before facing Musetti for bronze (3-2)

Slight advantage for Auger-Aliassime before facing Musetti for bronze (3-2)

They are the two surprise guests at these Olympic Games.

Lorenzo Musetti, but especially Félix Auger-Aliassime, were not expected to perform so strongly at the Olympic Games.

After seeing their respective dreams shattered in the semi-finals, defeated respectively by Djokovic (6-4, 6-2) and Alcaraz (6-1, 6-1), the two men will now attempt to console themselves with a medal - a bronze one at that.

In a duel between the young nuggets of world tennis, the match promises to be evenly balanced, and both men look capable of winning.

That said, the Canadian leads the way in head-to-head meetings, having won 3 of his last 5 matches.

Although they have never met in a Grand Slam, it is Auger-Aliassime who leads in recent duels, having won the last two matches he played against the Italian, both in 2022. He triumphed in Florence (6-2, 6-3) and at the Davis Cup (6-3, 6-4).

When it comes to clay-court encounters, Musetti can take hope from the fact that he has won two of their three matches on the surface. After losing in Barcelona in 2021 (4-6, 6-3, 6-0), he went on to defeat the Canadian in Lyon the same year (7-6, 3-6, 7-5), then in Monte-Carlo in 2022 (6-2, 7-6).

The final promises to be hotly contested, and the playing surface could even give the younger of the two protagonists a slight advantage.
