Slovakia savours its place in the final of the BJK Cup 2024: "A special moment for our country".
Slovakia didn't start with the odds stacked against them. However, they have won the right to challenge Italy in the final of the Billie Jean King Cup.
Matej Liptak's side came from behind to beat Great Britain.
After Hruncakova's defeat by Raducanu, Sramkova managed to topple Boulter. In the decisive doubles match, the Slovaks reached the final for the second time in their history.
The heroes reflected on their country's historic performance: "Everything that's happened so far has been incredible, from the first to the last point to reach the final," said Viktoria Hruncakova for Punto De Break.
"We're delighted that everything has worked out at every crucial moment. It's wonderful to grow up with this generation of Slovakian players, to see them on television when I was little.
I got to know Dominika Cibulkova. I'm happy to be able to count so many idols in our country."
Slovakia captain's satisfaction
For her part, Tereza Mihalikova prefers to savor the moment: "The only thing I'm thinking about right now is that we're in the final.
After the first match, which was difficult, we were a long way off, but Rebecca (Sramkova) gave us this opportunity. I started thinking about the emotions we'd feel if we qualified. Luckily, it came true. I'm very happy."
Finally, captain Matej Liptak was ecstatic after his players' achievement against the British nation: "This is a special moment for our country, our players and Slovak tennis.
We'll try to enjoy it tomorrow. The team is very happy. I believe that after the final, the girls will be legends, even if we lose.
It's a special moment for them, because everyone will know who made it to the final," he says. Before concluding, full of optimism: "We'll try to go even further." See you this Wednesday for the grand final of the 2024 edition.
