Additionally, with his 19th appearance at the American tournament, the 38-year-old player confirmed his status as the third player with the most Grand Slam appearances since the start of the Open Era (in men's singles).
Indeed, with 80 appearances, Djokovic ranks just behind Spain's Feliciano Lopez and his former rival Roger Federer (each with 81 appearances). Nadal, meanwhile, is behind with 68 Grand Slams played.
In pursuit of a 25th Major, the former world number one will now face Svajda for a 92nd victory at Flushing Meadows.
