Stats - Swiatek unstoppable in her tournament openers… since 2021
Iga Swiatek did not miss her start in this 2025 edition of Indian Wells. The Polish player, world number 2 and defending champion in California, crushed Caroline Garcia (6-2, 6-0), marking her 101st 6-0 set win since the start of her career on the main tour.
Swiatek has been seeking a title since Roland-Garros last year and has not played in a final this season, but that hasn't stopped her from continuing to be one of the most consistent players on the tour for three years now.
Since the start of the 2022 season, Swiatek has truly stepped up by winning 19 of her 22 WTA trophies.
Moreover, the Polish player often starts her tournaments perfectly.
As the X account (formerly Twitter) Jeu, Set et Maths reminds us, Swiatek has won her first match in a tournament in her last 52 events played.
The last player to beat Swiatek in her tournament opener was Ons Jabeur, in the second round of the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati in 2021. The Tunisian won 6-3, 6-3.
Since the 2021 US Open, no player has managed to eliminate Swiatek in her opening match. During this period, she has only conceded a set to her opponents six times.
This statistic is even more striking given that this year, her two main rivals on the WTA tour, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff, have experienced this misfortune.
The Belarusian was eliminated in her opening match in Doha by Ekaterina Alexandrova, while the American was defeated in her opener in Doha (against Marta Kostyuk) and then the following week in Dubai (against McCartney Kessler).
