Stats - What were the shortest matches of 2024?
As we all know, tennis can sometimes offer us epic battles lasting hours and in which the suspense is constant. That said, our sport can also be devilishly cruel, and some matches can be humiliating.
2024 didn't betray this observation, and some of the matches were disappointing, so considerable was the difference in level on the day. Thus, through the excellent 'Jeu, set et maths' account, specialized in tennis statistics, we learned about the season's most expeditious duels.
In the women's category, the winner was Iga Swiatek, who defeated Anastasia Potapova in the Round of 16 at Roland-Garros after just 40 minutes (6-0, 6-0). Second place went to Jasmine Paolini, whom Swiatek had beaten in the French Open final. In the first round in Stuttgart, the Italian defeated her compatriot Sara Errani in just 46 minutes (6-1, 6-0).
On the men's side, the prize went to Sebastian Korda, who beat Botic Van de Zandschulp in just 43 minutes in the second round in Dubai (6-1, 6-0). He was closely followed by Jan-Lennard Struff, who gave Holger Rune a tennis lesson in the Munich semi-finals (6-2, 6-0 in 44 minutes).
