Swiatek Dominates Kalinskaya to Reach Eighth Semifinal of the Season

In the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, Iga Swiatek firmly dominated her opponent of the day: Anna Kalinskaya (No. 34).
In their second career meeting (after Dubai in 2024), Swiatek avenged her loss to the Russian by winning 6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour and 33 minutes, solidifying her status as the tournament’s No. 3 seed.
Highly effective behind her first serve (79% of points won) and equally sharp on return games (47% compared to 27% for her opponent), the Polish player created no fewer than 11 break points (converting three) throughout the match.
With this result, she secured her eighth semifinal of the season and her 47th win of the year. The 24-year-old also became the youngest player in the Open Era to reach three consecutive semifinals in Cincinnati.
For a spot in the final, she will face the winner of the match between world No. 1 Sabalenka and world No. 10 Rybakina. Swiatek will aim to improve on last year’s performance, where she fell in the semifinals to the Belarusian and eventual champion (6-3, 6-3).
