The ATP circuit will be without its world number 1 until May.
After testing positive for clostebol at Indian Wells last year, Jannik Sinner has accepted a three-month suspension which will keep him out of competition until the Rome Masters 1000, a tournament in which he will be allowed to compete in early May.
Also recently suspended for a month for doping, world number 2 Iga Swiatek gave an interview for the official media of the Dubai tournament, where the Pole is currently attempting to win another WTA 1000 title. Swiatek spoke in particular about Sinner's suspension.
"What's certain is that every case is different. Because of Jannik's situation or mine, we're sort of celebrities, in addition to playing tennis.
Everyone can have an opinion and there can be a hundred different ways of looking at things. But I just try to stick to the facts and read the documents.
I have total confidence that the procedure has been carried out fairly. That's the only thing I can say, because I don't want to judge anything.
I don't know how Jannik must have felt, because I haven't spoken to him about it, but I imagine he must have been going through a difficult time.
I've been through something similar. I wouldn't wish it on any player.
I hope he recovers quickly and can get back to playing tennis. As I said, every case is different, so there's no reason to compare his situation to mine.
What I do know is that we have provided all the documents as accurately as possible. We did everything necessary and we followed the instructions, which led the World Anti-Doping Agency not to appeal.
As far as I'm concerned, I'm pretty sure that this case will come to an end, because in my case it was just a contamination", elaborated Swiatek.
