Swiatek on the new conditions at Indian Wells: "The ball bounces a lot and it helps me set up my game"
Defending champion of the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells, Iga Swiatek had no difficulty winning her first two rounds, conceding only four games in total against Caroline Garcia (6-2, 6-0) and then against Dayana Yastremska (6-0, 6-2).
In the round of 16, the Polish world number 2 will face Karolina Muchova. Despite the change in surface, Swiatek adapted very quickly to this new condition, as she confirmed herself in a press conference.
"The ball bounces a lot and it helps me set up my game, especially with the topspin I use. However, the court isn't everything, and I still have to do my part. It's a slow court with a lot of bounces, and it's always been like that, but maybe this year it's even more different.
The truth is, after playing every week on different courts around the world, it's very hard to quickly adjust to the surface compared to previous years. It's true that there's a difference between the center court and the outside practice courts, but that's something that happens in many tournaments.
The surface helps, but you still have to do the rest of the work. I'm always very focused and I accept the mistakes I might make. Here, I have more time to train between matches and to do good work.
I feel comfortable and I find my rhythm off the court to recover well. It's a feeling you only get three times a year. Other players can confirm this, and those who experience it more often are very lucky," Swiatek said, as reported by Tennis World Italia.
