Swiatek won't play until Wimbledon: "I have to put my health first".
Contrary to expectations, Iga Swiatek will play just one tournament on grass this year. After a stratospheric clay-court season (back-to-back titles at Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros), the Pole is clearly in need of a rest.
Indeed, the world number 1 once again seems to have no major objectives for the grass-court season. Swiatek, who has a reputation for being rather brittle on the surface, has announced that she will be withdrawing from the Berlin tournament in order to play at Wimbledon: "Due to my general exhaustion, both physical and mental, after nine intense weeks, I must unfortunately withdraw from the Berlin tournament in order to rest and recuperate.
I was looking forward to playing there in front of the German fans, but I have to give priority to my health so that I can play the whole season without any problems."
So the queen of the WTA Tour seems to be giving other priorities to the rest of her season, and in particular to the Paris Olympic Games, which will be played at Roland-Garros, in other words in her kingdom.
