Tan's Outburst After Missing Roland-Garros: "I've Proven I Can Compete in Grand Slams"
Ranked 244th in the world, Harmony Tan had hoped to compete at Roland-Garros, but that won’t be the case. While the 27-year-old Frenchwoman has played at least the qualifying rounds of every edition of the Parisian Grand Slam since 2017, the French Tennis Federation (FFT), which announced the wild cards for the main draw and qualifiers on Tuesday, did not grant an invitation to the Paris native.
Deeply disappointed by the situation, Tan—who also missed the Australian Open earlier this year—expressed her frustration in a post on her Instagram account, criticizing the FFT’s decision.
"No Roland-Garros for me this year. A bitter taste, a sense of injustice over the Federation’s decision not to grant me a wild card for the qualifiers.
Especially after all the efforts of recent months and the good results that followed. This week, I’m ranked 244th in the world, ahead of the nine players who received qualifying wild cards. And yet… nothing.
Yes, I’m 27. Yes, I’m no longer a 'young hopeful.' But I’ve proven I can compete in Grand Slams. I’ve had highs, lows, and I’m still fighting. Now, I’ll move forward, keep smiling as always, and return to the court with the same strength.
Because deep down, tennis is still a game. And I love playing," wrote Tan, a former world No. 90 who famously defeated Serena Williams in the first round of Wimbledon in 2022.
