Taylor Fritz admits his exhaustion: "I love competition, but this time..."

Exhausted, Taylor Fritz acknowledges that fatigue got the better of him in Shanghai. Defeated by Mpetshi Perricard, the world No. 5 needs to "recharge his batteries" before tackling the final tournaments of the season.
Out of energy yesterday in Shanghai, Taylor Fritz fell to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (6-4, 7-5). The American No. 1 had a busy September with two wins in the Laver Cup and a final in Tokyo.
Before starting the final stretch of the season where he will have to defend a final at the Masters, Fritz shared a message on his social media, announcing that he had "reached his limits" physically:
"The conditions were brutal yesterday. Respect to my opponent for this tough and courageous victory. Those who know me understand that I love competition more than anything.
That said, there has been a lot of competition lately. This week, I realize I've reached my limits.
Thank you for all the support in Shanghai. It's time to take a very short but necessary break to recharge the batteries and finish the year strong."
