Taylor Fritz Too Strong for Musetti: A Clean Victory to Launch His Masters
Taylor Fritz did not miss his debut in Turin. A finalist last year, the American dominated Lorenzo Musetti (6-3, 6-4) with authority to take the lead in the Connors group and send a message to Carlos Alcaraz, his next opponent.
A finalist in the last edition of the ATP Finals, Taylor Fritz hoped to start his campaign convincingly against Lorenzo Musetti, who was called up at the last minute after Novak Djokovic's withdrawal and their epic final played in Athens on Saturday.
The world No. 5 had some difficulties at the start, saving three break points on his second service game of the match. But after that, it was Musetti who cracked first, letting the first set slip away 6-3 after 49 minutes on the court.
The scenario repeated itself in the second set: an early break was enough for Fritz, solid on serve (13 aces, 83% of points won behind his first serve), to take the lead.
The American, who is participating in the event for the third time in his career, won 6-3, 6-4 with no less than 34 winners and 10 points won out of 14 net approaches.
He will face Carlos Alcaraz tomorrow, while Musetti will play for his survival against Alex de Minaur.
