Tears for Sakkari after US Open shoulder injury
Another Grand Slam disappointment for Maria Sakkari. Injured in the right shoulder, the Greek was forced to retire after losing the first set (6-2) to Wang Yafan on Court 17.
The world n°9 requested a medical time-out (3 minutes) at 5-2, but the physiotherapist's massage wasn't enough. Disillusioned, she had tears in her eyes as she left the court. Since reaching the semi-finals in 2021, she has won just one match in 3 years in New York.
