"That was a really very difficult match," admits Paolini after her victory against Yuan Yue in Wuhan
For her opening match at the Wuhan WTA 1000, Jasmine Paolini had to work hard to turn the situation around against Yuan Yue.
Jasmine Paolini suffered in her opening match at the Wuhan WTA 1000. Two games away from defeat, the Italian, ranked 8th in the world, finally found the solution to eliminate Yuan Yue (3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in 2h10), a player who had already taken a set from her in the first round of Roland-Garros this year.
A victory that keeps her undefeated against the Chinese player in four meetings on the main tour now. But the two-time Grand Slam finalist is aware that this match was not a walk in the park for her and that she had to be patient.
"That was a really very difficult match. For a set and a half, Yuan Yue played very well, she was hitting winners all over the court. On my side, it was important for me to raise my level today.
I think the break at 4-4 in the second set was crucial. From that moment on, I really got into the match. I managed to put more intensity into my game. I'm satisfied.
The break in the second set somewhat changed the complexion of the match. I felt much better on the court, and I'm happy to have managed to turn the match in my favor," stated Paolini, who will face Clara Tauson in the round of 16, for Super Tennis.
