Wuhan: Jasmine Paolini Stages Heroic Comeback Against Yuan

Pushed around, dominated, almost beaten… Jasmine Paolini pulled off a stunning comeback against Yue Yuan in Wuhan. A match where everything seemed lost, until the Italian proved, once again, that she has the soul of a warrior.
On the center court of the Wuhan WTA 1000, facing a red-hot local wild card, Yue Yuan, the world No. 8 delivered an intense battle, ultimately winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 after a little over two hours of a breathless tug-of-war.
The start of the match was difficult for the Italian, who conceded her serve very early. Yuan, playing at home, took the advantage (6-3). The next set didn't start well for Paolini either: at 0-1, she faced 15-40 on her serve. But with courage, she saved the break points, then another at 3-4, before managing to level the match at one set all (6-4).
In the final act, a completely different Paolini took the stage. More aggressive, more mobile, and more lucid as well. Yuan, for her part, dropped her level. And Paolini, without being perfect, made the right choices at the right time and raced into the round of 16, where the No. 10 seed, Clara Tauson, awaits.
Finally, with this victory, Jasmine Paolini becomes the player with the most match wins in China this season (7 wins, including BJK Cup), surpassing Amanda Anisimova, the winner of the Beijing WTA 1000.
