Many fans were hoping for it. But there will be no Olympic medal for the pairing of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal.
Despite two fine opening victories, the Spaniards came up against much better opposition.
Faced with American specialists Krajicek and Ram, they simply didn't have what it takes, losing by a wide margin in two sets (6-2, 6-4).
Alcaraz and Nadal were not strong enough in the return and, above all, did not know each other well enough to compete, so their dream of a medal is over.
