"The atmosphere feels more like a soccer match than a tennis match," Fonseca praises the Brazilian crowd

In his first main draw appearance at the US Open, Joao Fonseca made a successful debut by defeating Kecmanovic (7-6, 7-6, 6-3). Highly anticipated by fans from his home country, the Brazilian stated that he relies on the crowd during tough moments in a match:
"They are very loud and make the atmosphere feel more like a soccer match than a tennis match, but I love this atmosphere and the energy they give me. Representing my country is the greatest thing that could happen to me, and it motivates me to be a role model for Brazilian children. When I'm tired, I think about that to find the strength to keep going."
At just 18 years old, Fonseca is already ranked 45th in the ATP and has reached at least the second round of every Major he has played this year. He hopes to build on this progressive experience at the 2025 US Open:
"This year's Grand Slams have been a great learning experience for me, but now I feel perfectly prepared physically and tennis-wise to play five sets. I think I can have a great tournament."
In the second round, he will face the Czech player Machac (22nd).
