"The child in me who fell in love with tennis is still there," says Djokovic
Novak Djokovic is 38 years old but remains a player capable of performing in major tournaments. A finalist at the Miami Masters 1000 and a semi-finalist in the first two Grand Slams of the season at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, the Serb also recently won the 100th title of his career at the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva.
Still in the top 5 of the ATP rankings, Djokovic has set specific goals for the end of his career, notably to win another Grand Slam, with his tally stuck at 24 titles since the US Open 2023.
While his biggest rivals, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray have all retired, Djokovic, on the other hand, maintains his motivation and doesn't want to end his career, at least for now.
The Serb has reiterated in the past few hours that he intends to defend his Olympic title at the Los Angeles Games scheduled for 2028. Djokovic will be 41 years old by then.
"What keeps me motivated despite all my titles is above all my love and passion for the sport. I love tennis and I still adore holding a racket.
The child in me who fell in love with tennis is still there, I still feel that connection. If I didn't have this passion and desire to compete, I would not continue playing. I still enjoy the sensation of stepping onto the court with the racket in hand. That flame still burns inside me.
To be honest, the only thing on my mind right now that motivates me is the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028," assured Djokovic, who thus hopes to continue playing for several more years, to the media outlet Punto De Break.
