"The conditions are slightly different and could help me," says Musetti ahead of his Cincinnati debut
After his semifinal loss at Roland-Garros, Musetti faced a string of tough tournaments. Eliminated in the first round of Wimbledon (against Basilashvili), the Italian began his American tour with an early exit in Washington against Norrie, followed by a second-round loss in Toronto to Michelsen.
Now in Ohio for the Cincinnati Masters 1000, the 23-year-old shared his thoughts ahead of his opening match.
"It’s great to be back here in Cincinnati, in a year where the tournament has brought so many changes. The conditions are also different and could help me. It’s a surface where I don’t yet feel at my best to play my top tennis.
However, having played in the weeks before this tournament gives me hope for a quicker adaptation. The goal is certainly to perform well in this Masters 1000, where I’ve never had big results, to get the best possible preparation for the US Open," he said in an interview shared by Tennis World Italia.
For his opening match, he will face the winner of the Arnaldi vs. Bonzi encounter.
