"The first top 10 win is always a symbolic moment," Mpetshi Perricard savors his victory against Fritz

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard delivered an impressive performance to eliminate Taylor Fritz at the Shanghai Masters 1000.
Mpetshi Perricard secured one of the finest victories of his career so far. The Frenchman defeated Taylor Fritz (6-4, 7-5) in Shanghai and dominated a top 10 player for the first time on the ATP Tour. Following his win, the world number 37 took the opportunity to reach the round of 16 at a Masters 1000 event for the first time.
"Before this match, I had lost six matches against top 10 players without winning a single one. Some of those losses were painful and hard to accept. I was close against Musetti (in Beijing), and also against Fritz (at Wimbledon), but I knew I still had a lot to improve.
Unlike the Wimbledon match, I did certain things better, and my game plan worked. It was a tough match, both physically and mentally, but I'm happy I came through it. The first top 10 win in a career is always a symbolic moment," Mpetshi Perricard told ATP media.
