The pair Errani-Vavassori celebrates at Indian Wells, a few months after their US Open title

Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori defeated the pair Mattek-Sands-Pavic in the mixed doubles final at Indian Wells. In a tightly contested match, they won 6-7, 6-3, 10-8.
To qualify for the final, the Italians eliminated Marcelo Arevalo and Timea Babos in the quarterfinals (6-3, 6-7, 10-7), and then defeated the pair Krawczyk-Skupski in the semifinals (7-6, 6-3).
Invited by the tournament, Errani and Vavassori thus won their second mixed doubles title, a few months after their victory at the US Open against Taylor Townsend and Donald Young (7-5, 7-6).
After the match, Andrea Vavassori emphasized the importance of mixed doubles in an interview with Sky Sport:
"Today was a demonstration that mixed doubles can work very well. The audience and the players had a lot of fun. I will propose a mixed doubles circuit, with a separate ranking.
This way, people will be able to follow the doubles. Tennis is one of the few sports where men and women can play together, it's a beautiful thing."
