The record that Federer continues to hold season after season
It's been over two years since Roger Federer bid farewell to professional tennis, but the mark he left on the history of the sport continues to be felt.
While Jannik Sinner enjoyed an impressive year in 2024, racking up 9 titles in all, the Italian failed to come close to a 28-year-old record.
This is the record for titles in a single season: twelve tournaments won by Thomas Muster in 1996 and Roger Federer in 2006.
While Nadal and Djokovic have also enjoyed impressive seasons (11 titles each in 2005 and 2015), they have never been able to match or surpass this mark.
And in today's tennis world, where players choose to pay close attention to their schedules and experience occasional dips in form, it's hard to imagine Sinner or Alcaraz (to name but two) claiming so many titles in a single year.
