The surprising anecdote from Baez, winner of the Rio title: "I wasn't sure I was coming to Rio because of my results".

Yesterday, Sebastian Baez became the first player in Rio tournament history to successfully defend his title, having beaten Alexandre Muller in the final.
The Argentinian, who had not been in the best of form prior to the start of the week in Brazil, confessed in a press conference that he had even considered withdrawing from the tournament and losing the points for his victory last year:
"There's an anecdote I have to tell you. I wasn't sure I'd come to Rio because of my results and how I felt.
After losing to Seyboth Wild in the 2nd round in Buenos Aires, I had to make a decision from one day to the next.
I discussed it with my coach, Sebastian Gutierrez, who told me to keep fighting whatever the result, and to approach this week with courage. In the end, it was a good decision."
