The vice-president of the Spanish Tennis Federation reacts to Sorribes Tormo's break: "She always worked with a smile on her face"

On April 17, Sara Sorribes Tormo, 28 years old and ranked 109th in the world, announced an indefinite pause in her career. Two weeks after her loss to Selena Janicijevic in the first round of the Bogotá tournament, the Spanish player confirmed she had lost the desire and joy to train and that she did not yet know if she would return to the tour.
Anabel Medina Garrigues, vice-president of the Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) and a former professional player who retired in 2016, reacted to Sorribes Tormo's announcement and hopes she will return to the circuit very soon.
"I was surprised because Sara has always been a girl who showed so much love for tennis, and this shows that sometimes the sport is very demanding. Even if you have that passion, there are moments when, mentally, it becomes very hard to handle.
I was surprised that she decided to stop because she always gave 100%, always worked with joy and with a smile on her face. The fact that it has affected her this way shows she’s really going through a tough time, but I hope it’s just a break and not a farewell.
I sincerely hope so because she loves tennis so much, and I truly believe she will rediscover her love for the sport one day," she told *Mundo Deportivo*.
